Ray Cates is a writer and teacher in Ocala Florida. He has lived in Ocala since 1957. He grew up in Elizabethton Tennessee. Served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
In 1961 he was part of the invasion force at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba.
He graduated from the University of Florida and also from Blackstone School of Law. He did further graduate studies at Stetson University and Liberty University.
He taught literature at the University of Florida as a graduate student. He also taught English and writing at Webster College and at City College taught Law, Business English and Freshman English. He has also taught in secondary schools in Marion, Sumter and Lake Counties in Florida.
He now owns Oceans High School which is a correspondence school with the mission to help students of all ages graduate with their diploma. This school has been working for students since 1983. The website of the school is: http://oceanshighschool.com
